Debt, the midlife crisis, and a sick wife have crippled Ivanov in making life decisions. Although he has dreams and plans for his future, he puts his hands together and lets events happen to him. This behavior, especially his laziness about his wife Anna’s illness, has also angered those around him. He owes Lebdaf’s wife Zina, and on the other hand, the love that started between him and Lebdaf and Zina’s daughter Sasha has put a double burden on his shoulders.
I was proud to have a part in a performance adapted and directed by Amir Reza Koohestani, a world-renowned contemporary director. His adaptation of Chekhov made it seem as if the events were happening right now, perfectly understandable for the Persian-speaking audience. Avoiding reconstructing the original play’s background and geographical space created a unique experience in designing the role.
